Na bolesti hlavy způsobené stresem či nějakou nemocí, ať už infekcí nebo problémy s páteří (zejména krční), si ztěžuje během života téměř každý člověk, bez rozdílu věku či pohlaví.
Migrénou trpí většinou ženy, bývá často dědičného charakteru. Věk není rozhodující, většinou se u žen setkáváme s nástupem migrény v pubertě, kdy dochází k hormonální produkci. Jak už jsem uvedla, migréna je často vyprovokována změnou hormonální hladiny, nejčastěji v období menstruace, v pubertě, těhotenství a klimaktériu. Muži také trpí migrénou, ale jejich příčiny jsou spíš v přetěžování organismu a problémech s krční páteří. Spouštěčem u mužů bývá často i požívání alkoholu, či nevhodných potravin.
Cluster headache se projevuje převážně u mužů a tváří se mnohdy jako migréna. Rozpoznat rozdíly je těžké i pro odborníka.
